Updating Socrates

"The unexamined life is not worth living" -Socrates. I think he is right, but there may be qualifiers. In reality, perhaps the relationship between thinking and life value is curvilinear. So I'd add to Socrates, "And the life over-examined is not living at all."

Renewed self-efficacy can renew pride.

Competence--and nothing else--is confidence.

That which preys on one's hopes or fears becomes one's vice.

One can sit there and listen to another's words without hearing what they are saying.

One does not have to be infallible to be indispensable.

Some people may be motivated to self-discover because they wonder, "how will I ever find 'the one' if I am not myself first?" Perhaps the more important question is "how will I ever find myself if I am not myself first?"

There's fashion...and then there's common sense.

It's only called 'jealousy' if it's based on unfounded fabrication. If it's based on actual observation, though, it's called 'accurate appraisal.'

Pay attention to the details, but don't get caught up in the minutiae.

For better or for worse, for one's nice possession to confer status, everyone else must agree that it's nice first.

Money doesn't grow on trees. That's why we have 401(k)s.
